Swing Dance Book Recommendations

At Triple Step Studios, we recognize and honor the Black American roots of the core dances we teach, perform, and share, as well as the jazz music we love. We understand that we do so without lived experience of this culture and are deeply grateful for the opportunity to experience and appreciate this amazing art form.

We are committed to continuing our education and understanding of the historical, political, and social context from which jazz and lindy hop grew, and in which it exists today. By doing so, we can better honor and respect the roots of these dances and music.

We understand that cultural appropriation can be harmful and disrespectful, and we are committed to ensuring that we do not perpetuate this harmful practice. We will continue to learn and grow, and to listen to the voices of those who have lived experience with the culture of jazz and swing dancing.

It is our hope that by acknowledging and honoring the Black American roots of these art forms, we can create a more inclusive and welcoming community for all dancers and music lovers.
